The 27th ICSB continues the tradition of sharing the latest and most innovative research in subterranean biology, bringing together scientists from around the world dedicated to advancing understanding of subterranean ecosystems.

We are delighted to invite you to the 53rd World Groundwater Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, taking place from 14 to 18 September 2026. This prestigious event returns to Hungary after half a century, and we are proud to welcome you again to the beautiful city of Budapest.

The Geological Society of America's annual meeting, bringing several thousand geoscientists together for technical sessions, field trips, short courses, and keynote symposia. The 2026 themes are continental drift at its centenary, riverscapes in transition, and innovations in exploration from deep Earth to deep space. Karst and cave science regularly appears in the technical program, and travel grants are available.

The Sewanee Mountain Grotto Cave Fest is an annual Labor Day weekend gathering held at Cavers Paradise campground in Sewanee, Tennessee on top of the Cumberland Plateau. Activities include guided cave trips, social events, live music, a potluck dinner, and a conservation auction. Proceeds and donations support the Sewanee Mountain Grotto and local cave conservation efforts.

The TAG Fall Cave-In is an annual caving event hosted in the TAG (Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia) region. This event celebrates caving and community and is a longstanding tradition. Hosted by the Dogwood City Grotto (DCG) with the assistance of grottos from all around, it features a weekend of caving, socializing, a large bonfire, entertainment, and much more. The event is also a major fundraiser for the grotto and proceeds go back into the community to support conservation, research, and rescue efforts.

Workshops and courses

The Southeastern Region of the NCRC and Chattanooga Hamilton Rescue Service are proud to present the 2027 SE Regional. They will be offering Level 1 and Level 2 weeklong courses. The class will run from Saturday, April 3, 2027, to Saturday, April 10, 2027. It will be hosted at the Circle K Ranch just outside of Sewanee, TN (same place as the 2025 SE Regional). Join us for a week of rescue training in and around the TAG area. Registration and more detailed information will be available in Fall 2026.

The UNESCO International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK) is an annual observance on 13 September, dedicated to raising global awareness of caves and karst landscapes. Caves are naturally formed underground voids found worldwide, while karst landscapes form through the dissolution of soluble rocks, shaping distinctive surface and subsurface features. These environments provide vital resources, including drinking water for over a billion people, preserve unique biodiversity, and hold invaluable geological and cultural records.

Bat Week is an international, annual celebration designed to raise awareness about the need for bat conservation. Bats are amazing creatures that are vital to the health of our natural world and economy. Although we may not always see them, bats are hard at work all around the world each night - eating tons of insects, pollinating flowers, and spreading seeds that grow new plants and trees.
